Feb. 26 will bring with it another new studio album from Willie Nelson — and this time, the inspiringly hard-working country legend will focus his attention again on Frank Sinatra.

That’s Life will be the second album of Sinatra homages from Willie since 2018’s My Way, which earned him the GRAMMY for Best Traditional Pop Solo Album.

On Friday, a new lyric video for Nelson’s elegant take on the Sinatra classic “That’s Life,” which was written by Dean Kay and Kelly Gordon and became a huge hit for Sinatra in 1966. Willie’s new video features artistic flourishes from Paul Mann, a painter with a body of work focusing on alternative movie poster art (including Frankenstein, The Wizard of Oz, Indiana Jones, Pirates of the Caribbean, Pulp Fiction, The Big Lebowski and more).

Mann designed the album cover for That’s Life, a visual homage to the Sinatra aesthetic as well.

Willie Nelson and Frank Sinatra enjoyed a friendship over the years, and these tribute projects are Willie’s way of saying thanks.

“I learned a lot about phrasing listening to Frank,” Willie said in an interview for AARP magazine (June/July 2018). “He didn’t worry about behind the beat or in front of the beat, or whatever-he could sing it either way, and that’s the feel you have to have.”

That’s Life was recorded at Capitol Studios in Hollywood and Pedernales Studios in Austin, Texas, and was produced by Buddy Cannon and Matt Rollings.

Overall, That’s Life will be Willie Nelson’s 15th studio album with Legacy Records and his first release since July 2020, when he released his 70th(!) studio album, First Rose of Spring.

1. Nice Work If You Can Get It
