In addition to being a country music icon whose career has spanned decades and seen him achieve things few others have, Willie Nelson is a devoted fan of Frank Sinatra.

Today, Willie releases That’s Life, his second album of Frank Sinatra homages (following 2018’s My Way, which earned him the GRAMMY for Best Traditional Pop Solo Album.)

Nelson previewed That’s Life in recent weeks with a handful of songs, including the title track. His video features artistic flourishes from Paul Mann, a painter with a body of work focusing on alternative movie poster art (including Frankenstein, The Wizard of Oz, Indiana Jones, Pirates of the Caribbean, Pulp Fiction, The Big Lebowski and more).

Willie Nelson and Frank Sinatra enjoyed a friendship over the years, and these tribute projects are Willie’s way of saying thanks.

“I learned a lot about phrasing listening to Frank,” Willie said in an interview for AARP magazine (June/July 2018). “He didn’t worry about behind the beat or in front of the beat, or whatever-he could sing it either way, and that’s the feel you have to have.”

That’s Life was recorded at Capitol Studios in Hollywood and Pedernales Studios in Austin, Texas, and was produced by Buddy Cannon and Matt Rollings.

Overall, That’s Life will be Willie Nelson’s 15th studio album with Legacy Records and his first release since July 2020, when he released his 70th(!) studio album, First Rose of Spring.
