Train Throws it Back to the ’70s with “AM Gold,” New Album 5/20; Tour with Jewel/Blues Traveler This Summer

The music of San Francisco-based pop/rock band Train has been inescapable for years, and after a five-year break between albums, the Pat Monahan-fronted group will return on May 20 with AM Gold.
As its title (and that artwork above) implies, AM Gold is a throwback to a different era, calling to mind the “yacht rock” sounds of the 1970s’ and 1980s adult contemporary scene. As a preview, here’s the album’s title track:
“Writing songs is hard. Not compared to so many things I suppose, but it’s difficult to create something that you love and then other people love as well,” said Monahan. “Writing songs for two and a half years in front of video screens instead of being in the presence of other humans has been a long, strange trip. And now here we are. It has to start with love. Love that goes into work comes out of work. We love this song, this album, and our fans. Thank you for waiting so long for us. I think it was worth it. AM Gold! Here we go!“
2022 is the year of the Tiger. It has begun in a strong, beautiful, encouraging way & it’s only the beginning. The #AMGoldTour will be all those things as we are joined by @Jeweljk & @blues_traveler along w/ @Thunder_artis & @willyj1234 on select dates! https://t.co/R2qgCHvDPu pic.twitter.com/mpbmv8jVwL

AM Gold will be the 11th Train album to date, and the first since 2017’s A Girl, a Bottle, a Boat.
In addition to the album news, the band announced a lengthy summer tour with special guests Jewel and Blues Traveler.
