On Monday, the Pentagon formally and officially released previously leaked video footage from Navy pilots depicting bizarre interactions with “unidentified aerial phenomena,” which begs the question: Was Tom DeLonge of Blink-182 right all along?

In addition to his years serving as the guitarist and vocalist for the veteran pop/punk band, DeLonge also dove into the realm of the unexplained, devoting all kinds of attention to space exploration and the possibility of alien life on other planets. He founded the To the Stars Academy of Arts and Science, which participated in a leak of videos alleging UAP (“unidentified aerial phenomena”) in 2017:

Last fall, the Navy confirmed that the videos leaked by Tom DeLonge and his organization were real — and mysterious, which leads us to this latest development: the Pentagon officially recognizing these videos and releasing them officially.

Per CBS News:

One of the videos shows an incident from 2004, and the other two were recorded in January 2015, according to Sue Gough, a Defense Department spokeswoman. The videos became public after unauthorized leaks in 2007 and 2017, and the Navy previously verified their authenticity.

“After a thorough review, the department has determined that the authorized release of these unclassified videos does not reveal any sensitive capabilities or systems, and does not impinge on any subsequent investigations of military air space incursions by unidentified aerial phenomena,” Gough said.

If you were curious whether Tom DeLonge was taking notice of this development, well … of course he was.

DeLonge’s longstanding interest in space exploration and extraterrestrial life was brought to the masses in “Aliens Exist,” a song off Blink-182’s breakthrough 1999 album Enema of the State (which celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2019):

That song and DeLonge’s interest in space and aliens has long been an in-joke among the Blink community — but with each official report and statement supporting his endeavors, it may be DeLonge having the last laugh after all.

Maybe we should have believed him all along.
