Eagles bassist Timothy B. Schmit has been working on a solo album ever since the classic rock band‘s anticipated Hotel California tour was pushed back to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

One of the songs Schmit prepared for the new record is “Cross That Line,” an anthem with lyrical themes that apply to our present day. A press release notes that the song “addresses the MeToo movement along with Donald Trump’s ego,” and listening to it, it’s hard to disagree.

“I’ve had this song in my back pocket for almost a year now, and I’m not sure why I’ve waited so long to release it,” Schmit said of the song, which was premiered on Thursday. “Then it became clear to me about two weeks ago that now is, indeed, the time. There is nothing else I can say about this piece other than the song speaks for itself.”

When released, this new album from Timothy B. Schmit will be his seventh solo album overall and the first since 2016’s Leap of Faith. As for the personnel accompanying Schmit in the studio for “Cross That Line”:

“Cross That Line” was produced by Schmit and Jeff Peters and features Smokey Hormel (Beck, Johnny Cash, Neil Diamond) on lead guitar, Herman Matthews (Tower of Power, Tom Jones) on drums and Greg Leisz (Bon Iver) on steel guitar. Schmit plays bass himself and his three children (Jeddrah Leiterding, Owen Schmit and Ben Schmit) are part of a large chorus that provide backing vocals.
