Orange County, Calif.-based band Thrice added to its growing catalog of earnest and versatile music in September of 2021 with Horizons/East, its 11th studio album to date. An emotive, stylistically diverse and challenging statement, it’s among the strongest releases from the band in recent years.

Also particularly compelling is “Open Your Eyes and Dream,” a new song debuted by the band this week. Assuming a sound that almost calls back to the band’s fan-favorite album Vheissu, the track blends both aggression and melody in a way only Thrice could:

Said vocalist Dustin Kensrue of the track:

“It’s so very easy to believe that big systemic issues can’t change because we’ve lived with them our whole lives. But if you look back and zoom out a bit it’s easy to see that this feeling of permeance and inevitability is just an illusion. Most things seem impossible until they happen. This song is about opening our eyes to that reality, and being willing to dream something better into existence.”

It follows the May debut of “Dead Wake,” another standalone single that, stylistically, finds the group as unafraid as ever to inhabit its own musical space:

Having just completed a tour with pals Bayside, Thrice will resume life on the road for a few festival dates in the fall, as well as some shows celebrating the 20th anniversary of The Illusion of Safety:
