Thrice Debuts New Song, “Dead Wake,” and “Scavengers (Acoustic),” Co-Headline Tour with Bayside in June

Orange County, Calif.-based band Thrice added to its growing catalog of earnest and versatile music in September with Horizons/East, its 11th studio album to date. An emotive, stylistically diverse and challenging statement, it’s among the strongest releases from the band in recent years.

On Tuesday, the group debuted a new standalone single titled “Dead Wake,” the final version of a song the band began tracking during the Horizons/East sessions, but hadn’t finished until recently. Led by vocalist Dustin Kensrue’s raspy delivery and a shifting compositional structure that leads in some unexpected directions, it’s a grabbing song:

Said Kensrue of the track: “I’ve always been fascinated by songs that only have one chord progression, but feel expansive and varied through the use of shifting melodies and layers, and we wanted to play with that format here.”

The b-side to the new release is an acoustic version of “Scavengers,” a single from Horizons/East:
