On Oct. 11, Stephan Jenkins and Third Eye Blind will release a new studio album titled Screamer — continuing an especially busy era for the band, which used to be noted for the lengthy gaps between albums (usually the result of band member turnover).

The album comes on the heels of a big summer tour with Jimmy Eat World and Ra Ra Riot. The band recently premiered the album’s title track, and they’e since debuted a pair of additional songs.

Here’s “Walk Like Kings,” officially billed as the next single from the album:

That more pop-oriented number is a bit of a contrast to the acoustic stylings of “Song to the Siren,” which was also premiered:

It sounds as if Screamer will be a rather eclectic mix of songs, which is in line with what Jenkins said regarding the album’s conception:

“We have always been so insular, and on Screamer we adopted an
open door policy — come in, be musical, and follow the song where it takes us.”

That openness led to the band working with Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins, who is listed as a “musical
consigliere” for some of its material.

Back in April, Jenkins told Rock Cellar a bit about the album process and explained then that he’d been working with Corgan on some songs — but didn’t yet know where they’d end up:

“So that show actually turned into some songs that we’re working on to see how they work for the new record, since it really helps to play it live first. Then we went out to Sonic Ranch in Texas to record. Still have some stuff to finish up, I took two weeks off, went surfing in Indonesia, then i’ll be back in L.A. probably this week, probably, to finish up vocals and stuff.”

Catch Third Eye Blind on the road this fall for a run of shows supporting the new album and, of course, the band’s rich history of 1990s-era nostalgia.
