Preview The Who’s New ‘Tommy Orchestral’ Album with a Live Rendition of ‘Pinball Wizard’

The Who is out on the Moving On! tour, finding Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend and the band accompanied by a full orchestra. There will be two North American legs for the tour, one of which began this week. The second leg is coming in the fall.
Additionally, there is also an accompanying live album from Daltrey, which was announced on Thursday and will be out on June 14. The Who’s Tommy Orchestral is exactly what its title suggests, and was previewed with a rendition of “Pinball Wizard”:
Daltrey and his backing band toured the U.S. in 2018 with this Tommy orchestral show, an experience the vocalist called ‘magical,’ per the official press release.
More:
The album, which was recorded in Budapest and Bethel in upstate New York, the scene of the first Woodstock festival 50 years ago, was produced by Roger and Keith Levenson and features the core band of Simon Townshend vocals & guitar, Frank Simes guitar, Scott Devours drums, Jon Button bass, and Loren Gold keyboards, all of whom have played with The Who live. Keith Levenson conducted The Budapest Scoring Orchestra from new orchestrations by David Campbell.
By his own admission, Daltrey holds Tommy in especially high regard in his catalog of music. As he told Rock Cellar’s Ken Sharp in 2018:
The years previous, the original material I was singing was a person who had a lost identity searching for home. Tommy brought me home.
