Oct. 14 will bring with it the anticipated new album from English pop/rock/indie outfit The 1975, and on Wednesday the group shared a danceable new single from Being Funny in a Foreign Language.

Titled “Happiness,” the song was shared as a music video:

It’s the second song shared from the new record, which will be the 1975’s first since 2020’s captivatingly daring album, Notes on a Conditional Form. The heavily stylized “Part of the Band” was first debuted with the announcement of the new album:

Being Funny in a Foreign Language, the fifth album from the band, is credited to writers Healy and George Daniel, and was recorded at Real World Studios in Wiltshire, U.K. and Electric Lady Studios in New York.

The excitement around 2020’s Notes on a Conditional Form was tempered by the COVID-19 pandemic during which it was released, as it limited the 1975’s ability to get out on the road and tour the record around the world. They were on track for a U.S. arena tour with Phoebe Bridgers as support, but the tour was scrapped due to pandemic uncertainty. Shortly thereafter, Bridgers exploded in popularity, making such a tour seem impossible now that she is headlining big venues of her own (though Healy made an appearance at one of Bridgers’ triumphant Los Angeles gigs in October of 2021).

As a result, this new album cycle presents a chance for the group to make up for lost time — which it will, on a North American tour also announced on Wednesday.
