Sunny Day Real Estate’s most recent studio album was 2000’s The Rising Tide, and over the years the group has had strong ties to Foo Fighters — most notably due to Sunny Day’s initial breakup in 1995, that saw bassist Nate Mendel and drummer William Goldsmith join Dave Grohl in his then-new post-Nirvana project.

Mendel would remain with Foo Fighters, while Goldsmith’s tenure ended quickly due to creative differences with Grohl surrounding what became 1997’s The Colour and the Shape record. Goldsmith then reconvened Sunny Day Real Estate for two more records and tours, before dissolving again and reconvening in 2009 for some new material and more live shows. Mendel hasn’t taken part in Sunny Day Real Estate reunion activities since 2014, and does not seem to be involved with this new tour either.
