Sufjan Stevens Bringing His Unpredictable Live Show to the Hollywood Bowl 8/7
On Sunday, August 7, innovative songwriter/musician Sufjan Stevens will headline the Hollywood Bowl alongside Kurt Vile and the Violators and Ibeyi.
Stevens’ one-off gig comes a day after he will take the stage at the Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival in San Francisco (and his set is right before Radiohead‘s main stage slot, too).
For anyone who hasn’t seen Stevens live, he’s an engagingly unpredictable live performer. He turned in two eclectic sets at Coachella back in April and a similar set at the Pitchfork Music Festival in mid-July, here’s an example:
At the Bowl, Stevens will no doubt have another excellent pastiche of sounds ready for the audience, pulling material from some of his beloved albums — including 2015’s deeply personal Carrie and Lowell, which was a critical darling.
Supporting Stevens will be Kurt Vile and the Violators. Vile’s new album B’lieve I’m Goin’ Down has made waves around the music scene lately, thanks to its lead single Pretty Pimpin’:
Vile has performed at many high-profile music festivals to date, so those arriving early to the Bowl for Stevens will no doubt enjoy the laid-back vibes of Vile and the Violators as well.
Ibeyi, who are also on the Outside Lands bill, will open up the evening. Comprised of two French-Cuban sisters, their debut album came out last year and features the single River:
