Hear Spoon Cover David Bowie’s “I Can’t Give Everything Away” in Celebration of Bowie’s 75th Birthday

This coming Saturday, Jan. 8, marks the 75th birthday of the late, irreplaceable David Bowie — and long-running indie band Spoon saw fit to honor Bowie’s legacy with a cover of the final song on his final album, 2016’s Blackstar.
“I Can’t Give Everything Away” was Blackstar‘s third single, and was officially released as a single after Bowie’s passing.
The Spoon cover is available to stream via Amazon Music:
Said Spoon main man Britt Daniel:
“’I Can’t Give Everything Away’ is a tune Alex and I have been playing since we learned it for an acoustic and piano show in Mexico City in 2016. It’s just a fantastic song, and as the last song on Bowie’s final album it doesn’t disappoint. We recorded this version live in December 2021.”
Spoon, meanwhile, is preparing to release a new album, Lucifer on the Sofa, on Feb. 11 — click here to preview it.
“I spent a lot of 2018 and 2019 listening to ZZ Top,” said Daniel in a statement regarding lead single “The Hardest Cut” and its bluesy-rock stomp.
Lucifer on the Sofa was co-produced by Mark Rankin (Adele, Queens of the Stone Age). Guest contributions come from Dave Fridmann and Justin Raisen. Click here to pre-order the album from our Rock Cellar Store.
