There’s long been a hint of uncertainty surrounding Slipknot and just how long the masked heavy metal ensemble could remain a collective unit.

Since bursting onto the hard rock/metal scene with its self-titled 1999 debut album, the group has remained a global force of heavy music, soldiering on through the unexpected passing of bassist Paul Gray in 2010 (which spawned 2014’s .5: The Gray Chapter, which at the time felt like a final creative statement from the band).

Five years later, Slipknot returned with the crushing and emotionally wrought We Are Not Your Kind, reasserting itself as a collective — and the band will do that once again on Sept. 30.

Announced on Tuesday, the intriguingly titled The End, So Far will be the seventh Slipknot record to date. It was previewed with a track called “The Dying Song (Time to Sing),” a song putting vocalist Corey Taylor’s vocal range on full display, set to a stylized music video directed by Slipknot founder M. Shawn ‘clown’ Crahan:

“The Chapeltown Rag,” which Slipknot debuted in early November, will also be featured on the new album:

Will The End, So Far live up to its name? Time will tell, though Crahan was quoted in a news release as saying:

“New Music, new art, and new beginnings. Get ready for the end.”

The track listing for the album:

The Dying Song (Time To Sing)
The Chapeltown Rag
Medicine For The Dead
De Sade
