Sabaton Supporting Judas Priest on ’50 Heavy Metal Years’ Tour, Shares “Steel Commanders” Video (a Collab with ‘World of Tanks’)

Swedish heavy metal band Sabaton has a definite theme — war, and specifically the heroism of those who fight in wars. Such a theme would imply hard-charging riffs and pounding energy of the utmost degree, and it’s a trait the band has maintained for years. The same can be said for “Steel Commanders,” a new song/music video shared recently by the band ahead of its big support slot on Judas Priest‘s 50 Heavy Metal Years tour.
The track and video are the result of a team-up between Sabaton and World of Tanks, the popular massively multiplayer online video game in which … well, you just drive tanks around destroying things and battling enemies. If that sounds like a perfect melding of worlds, given Sabaton’s mission statement, it is. Plus, Grammy-nominated cellist/musical virtuoso Tina Guo shows up in a guest spot to make things even more powerful:
Per a news release, Sabaton front man Joakim Brodén decided to be a fighter pilot once he saw Top Gun,” and then he and bassist Par Sundström developed a deep love for and fascination of military history from the time they both watched the film Saving Private Ryan.
Typically, Sabaton’s live show features things lit on fire and elaborate barbed wire stage setups, though while providing support for Judas Priest on the English heavy metal icons’ tour, they’ll have to tone it down a bit … but it’ll still be pretty wild.
Here are the dates for Judas Priest ft. Sabaton, which start up today, Wednesday, Sept. 8:
