In the news for months, there’s finally concrete information as to when the Ronnie James Dio hologram tour, conceptualized and carried out by Eyellusion, will take place — and it’ll be later this year that the late heavy metal icon‘s visual form will perform alongside a full band.

As Billboard reported, the Dio Returns tour will find holo-Dio taking the stage alongside several of his longtime band mates, making this a truly special spectacle for fans. Via Billboard:

The official band line-up will feature Craig Goldy on guitar, Simon Wright on drums, Scott Warren on keyboards and newer Dio family member Bjorn Englenon bass. The show will also feature renowned metal vocalists Tim ‘Ripper’ Owensand Oni Logan of Lynch Mob.

“Ronnie James Dio was not only known for his amazing vocals, but also his incredible stage shows and performances,” Eyellusion’s Jeff Pezzuti said in a statement shared by Billboard with the news. “This show is a must see for all fans of Ronnie, new and old. The new stage production we have created plus the brand new Ronnie James Dio hologram have to be seen to be believed. This is a first of its kind metal show!”

Eyellusion, by the way, is the same company behind upcoming hologram tours involving Frank Zappa and Buddy Holly + Roy Orbison, so this seems like the beginning of a new trend with legacy acts …
