Phoenix Returns with ‘Identical,’ Band’s First Song in Three Years — from the New Sofia Coppola Film ‘On the Rocks’ Starring Bill Murray + Rashida Jones

On Wednesday, an official trailer was premiered for On the Rocks, Sofia Coppola’s new movie starring Bill Murray, Rashida Jones and Marlon Wayans, which will be released in October. Accompanying the film’s trailer (which you can view below) was a song, “Identical,” from massively successful French indie/rock band Phoenix. The band also scored the film.

The group’s first bit of new music in three years, “Identical” features flashes of the same irresistible dance/pop flourishes that made the band such a big deal a decade ago with “Lisztomania” and “1901.”
On the Rocks reunites Coppola with Bill Murray, who starred in her acclaimed 2003 film Lost in Translation. Here’s the film’s trailer:
And more on the movie, per IndieWire:
The film follows “a young New York mother faced with sudden doubts about her marriage [who] teams up with her larger-than-life playboy father to tail her husband.” Billed as “a sparkling comic adventure across the city — drawing father and daughter closer together despite one detour after another,” the film will see Coppola gamely tackling a “blend of an exuberant love letter to New York, a generation-clash comedy about how we see relationships differently from our parents, and a funny celebration of the complications that bind modern families even as they tie us in crazy knots.”
The bond between Coppola and Phoenix, meanwhile, stems from collaborations on a few music videos directed by the acclaimed filmmaker, including “Long Distance Call”:
Prior to “Identical” and the film’s score work, Phoenix’s most recent release was 2017’s Ti Amo, the band’s sixth full-length record.
