A Celebratory Toast to Sir Paul McCartney on His 80th Birthday

Portions of this piece originally ran for a previous birthday celebration on behalf of Sir Paul McCartney, so here it is again for his 80th …
Back in 1967, the Beatles wondered what life would be like “When I’m 64” — and now, that once-distant birthday is 16 years in the past for Sir Paul McCartney, who celebrates his 80th trip around the sun today.

We don’t need to lay out the reasons why the man affectionately referred to as “Macca” by fans around the world is considered one of the greatest songwriters in history (as part of one of, if not the greatest, musical act ever assembled).
Thanks for all the lovely greetings and warm wishes for my birthday – Paul

He’s of a special kind of musician, and after the Beatles went their separate ways he forged ahead with a still-active solo career that’s elevated his legend even higher.
Tributes poured in on social media from many of Sir Paul’s friends and loved ones, including, of course, Ringo Starr:
They say it’s your birthday Saturday happy birthday Paul love you man have a great day peace and love Ringo and Barbara love love peace and love 😎✌️🌟❤️❤️ pic.twitter.com/foex8TZa8m

In December 2020, McCartney released McCartney III, an album he recorded in “rockdown” entirely by himself — one of the stronger solo records he’s released in a while, as well.
He also just finished the “Got Back” stadium tour, which was unforgettable in Los Angeles last month:

All this to say: there’s only one Paul McCartney.
Happy birthday, Sir Paul!
