It’s been more than two decades since Papa Roach hit it big with Infest, the California band‘s breakthrough studio album led by the single “Last Resort,” which became an enduring classic of the era’s “rap-metal” scene.

In the years since, front man Jacoby Shaddix and his band have found a way to endure well past many of their peers, remaining a versatile act unafraid to try new things and expand its audience. The latest example is “Swerve,” a new song shared this past weekend that features two guest appearances — Jason Aalon of incendiary rock/punk outfit Fever 333 and Los Angeles-based rapper Sueco.

The mash-up of styles on display with “Swerve” really isn’t that far removed from the usual Papa Roach Expanded Universe, if you will — after all, the band’s mainstream popularity was based on a rap/metal hybrid blending rock and rap in the first place. The new track sounds more contemporary than dated, too, accentuated by saxophone work from collaborator Spencer Nezey.

Throughout, Papa Roach’s unmistakable identity is at the forefront, namely the confidence and earnestness of approach that’s gone into the band’s ability to remain a force on the scene:

Papa Roach has a handful of tour dates coming up soon, including some supporting Breaking Benjamin. The band has also restarted its own record label, New Noize Records. The most recent studio album rom the group was 2019’s Who Do You Trust?.
