The holiday season presents a special kind of stress for everyone. There are expectations, and unless you’re flush with disposable income it can feel a bit overwhelming. This theme is captured and expressed in the new music video for “Wandering Star,” the latest single from ex-Oasis songwriter/guitarist Noel Gallagher and his Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds project.

Premiered on Thursday, the clip features a down-on-her-luck single mom who receives some help from a grocery store Santa Claus as she shoplifts some cheap Christmas gifts to give her children:

We wanted to highlight the plight that can affect people, especially around Christmas; the pressures from commercial bombardment and a consumerist society, for a single-parent who will stop at nothing to ensure their kids feel the magic that so many take for granted.

“Wandering Star” comes off the new Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds EP Blue Moon Rising, which will be released on March 6. It’s appropriate that the song has a Christmas vibe to it, given the music itself, which definitely sounds well suited for Christmas with its production and bells.

And, after all, Gallagher’s first name is NOEL, which makes it even better.

Blue Moon Rising will be the third EP from Gallagher’s solo project and the follow-up to the trippy This Is the Place, which came out in late September.

These recent releases from Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds have varied in style and brought about some experimental side to his songwriting, which has been interesting to notice. It’s also run up against his brother, Liam Gallagher, who released his own solo album — his second to date — in September, a week before Noel’s EP.
