2020 has been a confusing, frustrating year for everybody. Our collective concept of “normal” has been shattered, for the most part, and any glimpse of what used to feel familiar is that much more precious these days — so it’s of absolutely no surprise that embittered Britpop brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher reside on contrary sides of the conversation surrounding wearing a mask to combat the effects and attempt to stop the spread of COVID-19.

It would be surreal if the Gallagher Bros. were, in fact, in agreement — they’ve rarely been in agreement (publicly, at least) for decades, their incessant feuding and volatility at the core of Oasis‘ magnetism all the while — but they very much are not regarding this issue of topical concern.

In a recent interview on the Matt Morgan Podcast, Noel let his thoughts fly regarding mask mandates: “Listen to me, it’s not a law,” Gallagher said. “There’s too many fucking liberties being taken away from us now.”

Echoing the same sort of sentiment , Noel doubled down:

“I don’t give a fuck. I choose not to wear one and if I get the virus it’s on me, it’s not on anyone else. If every other cunt’s wearing a mask I’m not gonna catch it off them, and If I’ve got it then they’re not gonna catch it off me. I think it’s a piss take.”

Liam Gallagher, on the other hand, has been posting almost nonstop on his Twitter account recently, keeping as busy as possible without being able to actually play music and live gigs in promotion of his 2019 solo album.

In mid-July, a fan asked Liam for his thoughts on wearing a mask, to which he replied:

2020’s been a tough year, but at least Liam and Noel are still as opposed to each other as always. At least we have that, whether you agree or disagree.

masks bollocks? news flash-so is your music.

  • George Reseter says:

    Noel —

This is not about your music — this is about those who love your music and admire you for making it.

When people admire you, your shoulders take on a responsibility — it’s not about you anymore. And your greatest responsibility is this: to not lead them into harm.

And, man, have you fucking shirked your responsibility.
