Before the COVID-19 pandemic hit the ‘pause’ button on the world, Mike Patton and Mr. Bungle reconvened for a series of instantly sold-out concerts.

The project, which originally existed from 1985 until 2000 and was around during the same time as Patton’s “other” band, Faith No More, was an aggressively unpredictable musical force among its three full-length albums. “Genre” didn’t exist, in its place was bold experimentation and a fierce sense of originality that made the group legendary.

The sold-out early 2020 gigs featured Patton and core Mr. Bungle band mates Trevor Dunn and Trey Spruance flanked by hard rock/metal legends Scott Ian (of Anthrax and S.O.D.) and Dave Lombardo (Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies) for what can really be called a “supergroup” of epic proportions.

The gigs saw the new Mr. Bungle performing all of The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny Demo, a 1986 demo cassette that found Mr. Bungle in its earliest, rawest and thrashiest — and on Oct. 30, a freshly re-recorded version of the 11-song release will be unleashed featuring the original songs and others that were written at the time — but not yet recorded, until now.

It’s been previewed thus far with three tracks. Here’s the pummeling, seven-minute thrash/metal of “Sudden Death”:

Here’s the abrasive “Raping Your Mind” (with an exceedingly flashy video full of satanic imagery):

And here’s “Eracist”:

It’s refreshing to see Mr. Bungle back in its most dynamic and heaviest form in 2020 — and the participation of Ian and Lombardo really pushes this whole project to the next level.

What’s more, Patton and the crew are offering up a Halloween-themed live stream event on Oct. 31 in connection with the album release. Expect weirdness with The Night They Came Home – A Virtual Live Concert Experience, that’s for sure:
