This past weekend, the NCAA men’s national basketball championship staged Final Four weekend, in which the Gonzaga Bulldogs and Baylor Bears advanced to the National Championship game. As part of the televised festivities, Miley Cyrus delivered a performance of some seriously classic rock anthems from Queen, Blondie, and The Guess Who, as well as parts of a few of her own hits.

The Final Four set saw Miley Cyrus and her band tackle Queen’s “We Will Rock You” and “Don’t Stop Me Now,” Blondie’s “Heart of Glass” and “American Woman” by The Guess Who, in addition to segments of her own songs “Wrecking Ball,” “We Can’t Stop,” and “Edge of Midnight” (which features a sample of Stevie Nicks’ “Edge of Seventeen”).

Watch it all below:

It’s all part of Cyrus’ very public embracing of the history of rock and roll, which marks a shift in her otherwise pop-oriented original music.

In late November, Miley released Plastic Hearts, an album featuring collaborations with none other than Joan Jett, Stevie Nicks, Billy Idol and international pop star Dua Lipa, and these NCAA performances were more or less an extension of that whole album’s vibe. (Jett, Idol and guitarist Steve Stevens, by the way, accompanied Cyrus for a pre-Super Bowl concert event on TV, too).

Plastic Hearts isn’t exactly a “punk rock record,” despite her all-star collaborations and the imagery at work here … but it is an expertly crafted pop/rock album from one of the successful pop stars in the world.

Give it a shot — there’s a reverence for what came before that makes up the mood of this record, and it’s a solid listen. Do so below.
