“No Time for Love Like Now” is an elegantly arranged and achingly beautiful new song from Michael Stipe, longtime vocalist for R.E.M., and Aaron Dessner of the National, part of Dessner’s Big Red Machine project formed with Justin Vernon of Bon Iver.

Stipe has performed the song a few times during the COVID-19 pandemic, and this week he and Dessner teamed up for a remote performance of the song for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

The song is the first released by Big Red Machine since the project’s debut album in 2018.

The song has come a long way since Stipe first performed a demo version of it by himself:

“I’m super excited to work with Aaron Dessner,” Michael Stipe said of the collaboration in a statement. “And I’m thrilled with how the song and lyrics landed. The title says it all.”
