Dave Mustaine and his Megadeth cohorts will return on Sept. 2 with a new album titled The Sick, The Dying…And The Dead!. The thrash/metal titans have been previewing the album in recent weeks with a few tracks, and the latest was unleashed on Friday.

Titled “Soldier On!,” the confrontational track surges forth on a blistering, chugging guitar riff and Mustaine’s customarily raspy vocals shouting the lines:

Of all the battles won and lost, the lives and treasures that it cost
I know I’ve got to soldier on!
Watching mankind destroy itself, walk straight into the mouth of Hell
I know I’ve got to soldier on!

Per Mustaine, “Soldier On!” has to do with, “Coming to the realization that you need to walk away from a relationship that’s very toxic, and how hard it can be to start down that road. But you know you need to, and just taking that first step is the hardest part. Whatever your leaving does to them, you have to block that part out, stay the course and do what’s right for you. It will be hard in the beginning, but you have got to live for yourself to be worth a damn to anyone else. You’ve got to Soldier On!”

Bassist Steve DiGiorgio temporarily stepped in to record the album. With the kick off of MEGADETH’s recent tour, MEGADETH-alumni James LoMenzo rejoined the MEGADETH family as permanent bass player.”

“For the first time in a long time, everything that we needed on this record is right in its place,” said Mustaine in a statement. “I can’t wait for the public to get hold of this!”

Once released, The Sick, The Dying … and The Dead! will be Megadeth’s 16th album to date and the first since 2016’s Dystopia.
