New from Wolfgang Van Halen’s Mammoth WVH: Stream “Feel,” Debut Album Out 6/11

June 11 will bring with it the anticipated debut full-length album from Mammoth WVH, the musical project helmed by Wolfgang Van Halen.

The song of the late Eddie Van Halen has been previewing the record in recent weeks with a handful of tracks — songs that have made significant inroads on rock radio, specifically his emotional debut track “Distance” — and the latest preview was shared on Friday.

Titled “Feel,” the guitar-heavy song is another example of Wolfgang’s strong musical presence and the promise of the Mammoth WVH project. Check it out:

“Distance,” Wolfgang’s introductory musical statement with this project, has hit

“The response to ‘Distance’ has been incredibly overwhelming,” said Wolfgang Van Halen in a statement. “The immense support from everyone at radio who played the song and all of the fans who called requesting it has been more than I could have imagined. Thank you to everyone who helped me get my first #1 song. I wish Pop was here to see it.”

“Don’t Back Down” was another recent track shared from the album, featuring a music video in which Wolfgang plays every instrument (representative of the album’s conception, it makes for a great visual):

This is truly a solo project for Wolfgang Van Halen, as he wrote all the music and performed all of the instrumentation and vocals throughout.

This project had been in the works for a while, but news of his father’s cancer progression halted it for the time being:

Wolfgang Van Halen has been preparing to release music from his solo band Mammoth WVH for some time. That plan was altered when his father and guitar icon Eddie Van Halen called him and told him his cancer had returned. Wolfgang decided to put everything on hold to be with his father through his battle.

Explained Wolfgang Van Halen in a statement:

“As my pop continued to struggle with various health issues, I was imagining what my life would be like without him and how terribly I’d miss him. While the song is incredibly personal, I think anyone can relate to the idea of having a profound loss in their life.”

“I never intended ‘Distance’ to be the very first piece of music people would hear from me, but I also thought my father would be here to celebrate its release. This is for him. I love and miss you, Pop.”
