After years in the scene as a member of the Smiths, not to mention his work with acts as eclectic as the Pretenders, Paul McCartney, Modest Mouse, Pet Shop Boys, Bryan Ferry and as a prolific solo artist, you might imagine Johnny Marr has stories to tell.
He does, indeed, and on November 3 he’ll release his official autobiography, Set the Boy Free.
Said Marr about the book:

I wanted to convey a feeling of breaking free, that has been a constant throughout my life. A feeling that expresses itself as both escape and discovery. Transcendence. I found it through rock ‘n’ roll and art and a journey living both in the modern world.“

In conjunction with the book release Marr will head out on a book tour in the United States to discuss the book, his career and that sense of ‘transcendence’ that he’s experienced throughout his life.
The book tour will begin on November 15 and bring Marr to New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Beaverton, Oregon, with special guest moderators on-hand to interview him each night. For full details, visit his site.
Marr’s most recent solo album was 2014’s Playland — here’s a music video for the song “Dynamo,” taken from that record:
