Back in mid-June, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Jeff “Skunk” Baxter hit a career milestone by releasing his very first solo record, Speed of Heat.

In commemoration of the new record and to get his new music out in front of folks in a live setting, the guitarist known for his timeless work in Steely Dan, Spirit and the Doobie Brothers (among many other projects) embarked on a run of West Coast tour dates in the summer, following an earlier East Coast slate of shows.

He’s now detailed a Midwest slate of gigs for December, his first headlining tour in the region. The dates:

December 14 – Shank Hall – Milwaukee, WI
December 15 – SPACE Evanston, IL
December 16 – The Magic Bag – Ferndale, MI
December 17 – Kent Stage – Kent, OH
December 18 – Jergel’s – Warrendale, PA

As for the band backing “Skunk” on the road, there’ this from a news release:

CJ Vanston – co-producer of Speed of Heat and co-writer of many of the songs – is featured in the touring band. Vanston is an accomplished film composer (Christopher Guest films), producer (Def Leppard, Joe Cocker), and keyboardist extraordinaire. The four-piece band is rounded off with drummer Mark Damian and bassist and vocalist Hank Horton.

“It’s amazing to have those musicians on stage alongside my musical partner CJ Vanston and myself delivering our amazing music night after night,” Baxter said.

A bit more on the Speed of Heat record, in Baxter’s own words:

“You go into making a record with so many expectations, but I can honestly say that the finished album met and exceeded all of them,” Baxter says. “It was immensely gratifying when my musical peers would come up to me and said, ‘Hey, I heard you’re making a solo album. Can I sing or play on it?’ That’s a wonderful feeling. Throughout the entire process, and with CJ Vanston’s extraordinary talent and support, I strove to achieve something new, compelling, singular and exciting with each track. I believe this collection of songs and performances realizes that goal and trust that those who listen will come away with the same sentiment.”
