A triumphant tour that saw Jeff Lynne’s ELO parade around the world playing huge venues inspired some creativity for band leader/musical mastermind Jeff Lynne, and today, the fruits of his labor have been fully realized.

From Out of Nowhere, the first new album from Lynne and ELO since 2016’s Alone in the Universe, was released. As a preview, Lynne premiered a video for the track “Time of Our Life,” which more or less serves as a celebration of ELO and its fans on that massive world tour:

As for the rest of the album, Lynne was the principal figure behind nearly every sound you hear on the songs. From the news release:

Once again, he plays nearly every note of the music on guitars, bass, piano, drums, keyboards and vibes, as well as singing all of the lead and layered harmony vocals. Steve Jay, who also engineered the album, adds some percussion.

The soundcapes put on any Jeff Lynne’s ELO release by Lynne shows a music legend at the absolute peak of sonic expression, and that’s the case once again with From Out of Nowhere, its guitars plucky, the accompanying synth providing a buoyant propelling force, matched to waterfalls of vocal harmonies.

It’s a delight. Stream it below, via Spotify:
