Jeff Beck and Johnny Depp Teaming Up on John Lennon’s ‘Isolation’ is an Unexpected Treat

Recently, two icons teamed up when Jeff Beck and Johnny Depp dropped a surprise collaborative track, “Isolation” — a cover of the John Lennon classic from 1970’s John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band LP.
And it doesn’t sound like this was a one-off mash-up between the legendary guitarist and the versatile actor/singer, as Beck revealed on Instagram when announcing the song:
Johnny and I have been working on music together for a while now and we recorded this track during our time in the studio last year. We weren’t expecting to release it so soon but given all the hard days and true ‘isolation’ that people are going through in these challenging times, we decided now might be the right time to let you all hear it. You’ll be hearing more from Johnny and me in a little while but until then we hope you find some comfort and solidarity in our take on this Lennon classic.”

And for comparison’s sake, here’s the Lennon original:
The “You’ll be hearing more from Johnny and me in a little while” implies that the pair may have made an album together, and the Guardian confirmed that as well.
Depp is no stranger to all-star team-ups, having made a couple of albums with Joe Perry and Alice Cooper as the Hollywood Vampires, among other projects.
There’s also a bit of a teaser clip of the song being performed live at the 2019 Crossroads Guitar Festival in Dallas, Texas … might a full clip be on the way soon? We’ll wait and see.
In the meantime, here’s the ensemble performing the song live at a show in September 2019:
