Multi-platinum alt/rockers Incubus are out on the road this summer with Sublime with Rome and the Aquadolls, but the tour hit a snag this week due to an injury sustained by lead vocalist Brandon Boyd.

Three shows over the weekend were postponed due to “unforeseen circumstances,” according to the band’s social media pages. A performance in Rogers, Arkansas, on Tuesday, Aug. 16, was also added to the list of scrapped gigs.

On Monday, though, Boyd posted a video message on his Instagram Stories page explaining the holdup.

“Fortunately, nobody has COVID. Everybody is healthy, and happy,” Boyd explained. “I just threw my back out a few days ago, and I’ve never had an experience like this before. I can’t — or couldn’t, as of the past few days — I couldn’t really do anything other than just sort of lay there and wait [laughs]. Today I can take some deep breaths, definitely heading in the right direction, so we’ll be back in the saddle, so to speak, sooner than later.”

He also apologized to fans inconvenienced by the show postponements, but promised to be “back at it, very quickly.”

The rest of the tour looks like this as of now, with the postponed dates at the top:

In 2019, Incubus went out on a special 20th anniversary tour in commemoration of 1999’s Make Yourself, the Calabasas, California band’s breakthrough third album. 2021 marked the 20th anniversary of another important record, 2001’s Morning View, though Incubus didn’t tour for it due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

With that context, this summer tour has been a cathartic experience for band and fans like, with Incubus adding some Morning View favorites into its set. An Incubus live performance ordinarily tends to draw from all corners of the band’s catalog, touching on material as far back as 1997’s S.C.I.E.N.C.E and as recent as 2017’s 8.

This renewed activity comes after Boyd released a new solo album, Echoes & Cocoons, on March 11 — his first proper solo album in a decade.
