Idles has earned a reputation in recent years, the Bristol, UK band’s in-your-face lyrical urgency and aggression and penchant for mind-blowing live performances earning the group legions of dedicated fans the world over.

The 2018 album Joy as an Act of Resistance was very much a reaction to the world at the time, earning massive acclaim, its songs touching on hot-button issues including Brexit, masculinity and immigration, to name a few. The record’s timely, focused and thoughtful angst resonated with audiences, earning Idles high-profile music festival slots and bigger audiences (including an anticipated spot at this year’s Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, before the festival was cancelled and moved to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic).

On September 25, Idles will release its third full-length album, Ultra Mono, which was officially detailed on Tuesday and previewed with a gritty music video for “Grounds,” which ushers in a new era for the group:

The song follows “Mr. Motivator,” which was released a few weeks back:

More on the album, via a news release:

Across all twelve brutally relevant tracks, the band double down on the vitriolic sneer and blunt social commentary of their past work, with themes of active presence, inclusivity, class, gender inequality, nationalism, community, and toxic masculinity remaining ever-present. ‘Ultra Mono’ also features guest vocals from Jehnny Beth (Savages), and additional guest contributions from Warren Ellis (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds), David Yow, and Jamie Cullum.

Idles’ official website has a number of preorder packages available for the album, including tickets to a handful of live stream concerts scheduled for late August.
