Green Day debuted a new song/video over the weekend, part of the group‘s continued collaboration with the National Hockey League, intended as part of the NHL’s outdoor game in Lake Tahoe between the Colorado Avalanche and Las Vegas Golden Knights.

Stylistically, “Here Comes the Shock” is reminiscent of the band’s early 2020 album Father of All …, which was fast, tight, concise and straightforward. The video for this new song features Punk Rock Aerobics co-founder and punk musician Hilken Mancini, who leads a rather energized punk-themed workout routine to the song:

This new song is the latest in what’s been a busy year or so for the members of Green Day, who had to postpone their planned Hella Mega Tour with Weezer and Fall Out Boy from Summer 2020 to (as of now, at least) Summer 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite not being able to delight the masses at stadiums around the world just yet, Green Day front man Billie Joe Armstrong released a solo album of his quarantine covers in late November, just before he and his colleagues — drummer Tre Cool and bassist Mike Dirnt — donned their goofy space suits for another album as their secretive New Wave side project The Network.
