Every now and then we’re treated to a totally absurd music video from the Foo Fighters.

Remember “Learn to Fly” and its madcap adventures in the sky? Or even as far back as 1996, with “Big Me” and its Mentos TV commercial send-up? Well, the latest one is here, and you can’t really be properly prepared for what happens in the clip for “Love Dies Young.”

Premiered on Thursday, the video is for the final track on Medicine at Midnight, the Foos’ adventurous early 2021 album. Directed by Dave Grohl, the insanity features “deep fake” versions of the guys — Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Chris Shiflett, Rami Jaffee and Nate Mendel (but not Pat Smear, who has a … different role in this one) — as a synchronized swimming team practicing under the watchful eye of a coach played by Jason Sudeikis, Saturday Night Live alum and current star of the hit Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso.

A lot of nonsense goes on for a few minutes before the clip’s completely off-the-wall ending, which … well, just watch:

Kudos to the band (and Pat Smear, especially) for the faithful Caddyshack reference there at the end.

As a reminder, this is the band’s first official music video since being enshrined into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

It also comes right before the band stars in its own horror/comedy film, Studio 666, announced earlier this month with the following synopsis, depicting the band moving into … “an Encino mansion steeped in grisly rock and roll history to record their much anticipated 10th album. Once in the house, Dave Grohl finds himself grappling with supernatural forces that threaten both the completion of the album and the lives of the band.”

Surely more nonsense awaits. Stay tuned!
