72nd Annual Emmy Nominations Announced — Awards Show Scheduled for 9/20 (as Virtual Event)

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic having thrown the world into chaos and affecting the entertainment industry in ways few expected, the 72nd Annual Emmy Awards are still on schedule to be announced on Sept. 20 in a virtual format, as dictated by the state of the pandemic.
The official list of nominees was announced on Tuesday in a live video shared by the Television Academy and hosted by Leslie Jones:
Per Deadline, the 2020 Emmy nominations list is an intriguing one — not only due to the pandemic:
Overall, this year’s most unusual TV season (thanks to the coronavirus pandemic) sees a record 767 different programs in the running for Emmys in more than 100 categories. Overall submissions for 2020 have increased by 15% over the previous competition year, according to the TV Academy.

This news of the 2020 Emmys on track to take place in some format in September (for now, at least) runs in contrast to the official plans for the 2021 Academy Awards, which were officially pushed back from February 2021 to April as a result of the pandemic.
