English hard rock/metal band Bring Me the Horizon has taken measures in recent years to move away from that genre classification, first with 2019’s amo record and its latest single, “Die4U,” which was released in September and marked another dramatic move toward a poppier sound — while still retaining some of the group’s edge.

The band’s latest release, however, finds them teaming up with Ed Sheeran on reworking of “Bad Habits.” Originally released by Sheeran in June, the track has become another huge hit for the singer/songwriter, earning a nomination for Song of the Year at the upcoming 64th Grammy Awards.

Bring Me the Horizon appeared with Sheeran to open the Brit Awards broadcast earlier in the month, during which they debuted their surprising new collaboration:

And here’s the new recorded version, which features Bring Me vocalist Oli Sykes trading lead duties with Sheeran:

Said Sykes of how this team-up materialized:

“From receiving the email asking whether we’d like to open the brits with Ed Sheeran to us chatting and bouncing ideas to rehearsing and then performing and now releasing, this has needless to say been pretty mental. But we are all about pushing the boundaries of our own and other genres, so this felt like the perfect challenge.”

It’s the latest surprising career move from Bring Me the Horizon, and it’s interesting to hear where the band goes next. Sykes and his band mates have been previewing new material on social media lately, so there may be more coming sooner rather than later.
