On Sept. 16, Ben Gibbard and his esteemed indie band, Death Cab for Cutie, will return with Asphalt Meadows, their tenth studio album to date.

The news was made official on Wednesday, and came with the premiere of a new song titled “Roman Candles”:

“‘Roman Candles’ is about the crippling, existential dread that goes hand in hand with living in a nervous city on a dying planet,” reads a statement from the band about the track, “and that the only way to be in the moment is to let it all go.”

Added Gibbard:

“The lyrics were cobbled from a couple of different songs dealing with my general sense of anxiety; the feeling that the fabric that weaves a functioning society together was crumbling during the pandemic.”
