David Gilmour has premiered his first new bit of new music since 2015, and “Yes, I Have Ghosts” is an elegant, introspective new song from the Pink Floyd legend. The song’s refrain:

Yes, I have ghosts, not all of them dead
Making dust of my dreams, spinning round and around
Around in my head

Featuring backing vocals from his daughter, Romany Gilmour, the song features some gorgeous harp and violin accompaniment, and is available in music video format:

“Yes, I Have Ghosts” first materialized in the audiobook version of A Theatre for Dreamers, the recent book published by David Gilmour’s wife and musical collaborator, Polly Samson, but didn’t exist on its own until now.

Said Gilmour in a statement about the song:

“Polly’s vivid and poetic writing, coupled with her very natural narration voice, made joining forces to produce the audio version of A Theatre for Dreamers a fantastic and fulfilling experience. The audiobook format has so much untapped potential, and I am surprised more musicians have not creatively collaborated with authors, narrators and audiobook producers in this way before. The two worlds seem to seamlessly link, and music can really help to bring audiobooks to life in unexpected new ways.”

The most recent studio album from David Gilmour was 2015’s Rattle That Lock, so the premiere of “Yes, I Have Ghosts” brings to an end that period of no new music.

In related news, Gilmour, Samson and their family continue doing their Von Trapped series of at-home entertainment videos uploaded to his Facebook page, with the most recent entry coming this week:
