Watch: Dave Grohl Joins Paul McCartney (and Bruce Springsteen) for Emotional Glastonbury Performance (Grohl’s First Appearance Since Taylor Hawkins’ Death)

In the three months since the March 25 death of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, band leader Dave Grohl has understandably maintained a very low profile. Hawkins’ passing was sudden, tragic and devastating, and outside of announcing two special tribute concerts in the U.K. and Los Angeles in September, the normally very visible Grohl has stayed out of the limelight (occasionally popping up on his daughter Violet’s Instagram Live videos).
This past weekend, though, Grohl made his first public appearance since Hawkins’ death — and it was a big one. Grohl emerged as a special guest alongside pal Sir Paul McCartney during Macca’s Glastonbury performance, joining McCartney and his band on the Beatles classic “I Saw Her Standing There” and Wings’ “Band on the Run” (which Grohl and the Foo Fighters recorded years ago).
McCartney introduced Grohl prior to him taking the stage:

It’s an undeniably emotional scene, seeing Grohl in a live setting for the first time in a while. Here’s BBC Music video of “Band on the Run”:
Here’s footage of “I Saw Her Standing There”:
Grohl told a story of how he almost didn’t make it to this performance:

Before Grohl left the stage, he pointed to his hand, which had a “T” written on it — an homage to his fallen colleague and dear friend, Hawkins.

Sir Paul’s marathon Glastonbury set also featured a surprise appearance from Bruce Springsteen, who lent a hand on “I Wanna Be Your Man” and Springsteen’s own classic, “Glory Days”:

The performance wrapped with another collaboration on “The End” — featuring both Grohl and Springsteen.
Talk about a special night.
