Dalai Lama Releasing ‘Inner World,’ an Album of Teachings and Mantras, in July for His 85th Birthday

Something about the sentence “The Dalai Lama is releasing an album” sounds amazing, doesn’t it?

On July 6, the Dalai Lama will release Inner World, a collection of teachings and mantras.

It will be the first album from His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and you can preview the 11-track collection below with the famous Buddhist prayer “Compassion”:

Inner World features guitar work from Anoushka Shankar, and was co-produced by Charles Goldstuck and Junelle Kunin. The Associated Press features much more on how this project came about, so check that out here.

Proceeds from Inner World will benefit the Mind & Life Institute as well as Social, Emotional and Ethical Learning, an international education program developed by Emory University and the Dalai Lama.

There’s also a new Instagram page set up for the Inner World album, which has been uploading material relevant to this project for a few weeks, imparting wisdom like the following:

One of the purest expressions of speech is said to be the sound of Sanskrit, the ancient language of the holy beings of India. Inner World is a collection of Mantras, spoken by The @DalaiLama. “Mantra” can be translated as “mind protection” – they are a series of syllables, and often words, that are recited by practitioners.
