Colin Hay to Cover the Beatles, Kinks, Glen Campbell, More on New LP ‘I Just Don’t Know What To Do With Myself’

On Aug. 6, Colin Hay, the prolific singer/songwriter known for his solo career in addition to years fronting the Australian group Men at Work, will release a new album titled I Just Don’t Know What To Do with Myself.
As its name might suggest, the project came about during the quarantine months of 2020, while Hay found himself stuck at home. Per Compass Records’ album details, “he read that Gerry Marsden had died and found himself strumming the Gerry and the Pacemakers’ Merseybeat hit, ‘Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying.’ He decided to turn on the tape machines and share with his frequent collaborator/producer, Chad Fischer, who asked for more of the same.”
The songs on the album, then, find Colin Hay paying tribute to a number of acts across the musical spectrum, from the aforementioned Marsden to Glen Campbell (“Wichita Lineman”), the Beatles (“Norwegian Wood” and “Across the Universe”), the Kinks (“Waterloo Sunset”), and Dusty Springfield (the title track), among others.

I Just Don’t Know What To Do With Myself is a favorite song of mine, first hearing it on a 1978 album by Demis Roussos. I just realized it was a Burt Bacharach/ Hal David song from the early 60’s
Great version. And he covers Del Amitri! Top man.
Colin just has that voice that never ages.
