Since 1999, Chris Shiflett has been known to many as the lead guitarist of the Foo Fighters — though his musical roots run much deeper than that, spanning years of work in punk bands like No Use for a Name and Me First & the Gimme Gimmes.

As a solo artist, too, Shiflett’s musical avenues know no bounds, as he’s also released a series of albums and songs in the Americana/country realm. Shiflett recently added to that catalog with his latest song, “Born & Raised,” more or less bridging the gap between his West Coast roots and his relationship with Nashville.

Per a news release, the track was produced by legendary producer Vance Powell. Also, per a news release: Shiflett began writing the tune while surfing his hometown Santa Barbara coastline but finished it in Music City where a group of Americana studio all-stars—bassist Jack Lawrence (The Raconteurs, Jack White, Wanda Jackson), drummer Julian Doro (Eagles of Death Metal, The Whigs), keyboardist Mike Webb, and steel guitarist Luke Schneider—brought “Born & Raised” to life.

Said Chris Shiflett on the song and working with Powell:

“My trip out to Nashville in March of 2021 was my first time recording any solo material since I made Hard Lessons. I hadn’t done much traveling post-COVID lockdown so I was a little nervous heading out there to work with a producer and roomful of musicians I didn’t really know. In true Nashville style we made our introductions and got right down to work, hammering out the basic tracks in a few hours. Vance was great and made me feel right at home, and the group of players he put together were on point.”

It’s the second song shared by Shiflett recently from his sessions with Powell, following late July’s “Long, Long Year”:

With the Foo Fighters’ future in question due to March’s tragic passing of drummer Taylor Hawkins (which resulted in Sept. 3’s incredible, emotional tribute concert at London’s Wembley Stadium and another coming up on Sept. 27 at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles), Shiflett and his backing band have some tour dates lined up for the winter:

Sept. 17 – Redondo Beach, CA – BeachLife Ranch Festival 2022
Dec. 3 – Tempe, AZ – Marquee Theatre
Dec. 8 – Anaheim, CA – House of Blues Anaheim
Dec. 17 – Las Vegas, NV – House of Blues Las Vegas
Dec. 28 – Los Angels, CA – The Belasco
