Anybody who knows anything about the Foo Fighters knows this: the individual members don’t shy away from projects outside of their globe-trotting, festival-headlining, million-selling main band. And with the Foos’ “hiatus” seemingly over soon, there’s still time for more new projects on the side.
With that in mind, guitarist Chris Shiflett will release a new solo album, West Coast Town, on April 14 via SideOneDummy Records. The news was announced on Wednesday, along with a premiere of the title track over at Rolling Stone. Stream it below:

Shiflett is no stranger to forays into country-rock territory, having released a pair of solo albums to date, including 2013’s All Hat and No Cattle under the Chris Shiflett & the Dead Peasants name. In terms of Foo Fighters side gigs, West Coast Town comes after drummer Taylor Hawkins unleashed Kota in 2016 and bassist Nate Mendel’s debut under the name Lieutenant in 2015.
Some more insight about Shiflett’s focus as he worked on West Coast Town, including information about the musicians who worked alongside him:
Working with Grammy Award-winning producer Dave Cobb and Grammy Award-winning engineer/mixer Matt Ross-Spang, the 10-track album was recorded at Nashville’s historic RCA Studio A during the summer of 2016. In addition to Shiflett on electric guitar and Cobb on acoustic guitar and percussion, the album features an all-star collection of studio musicians, including Robby Turner (Waylon Jennings, Chris Stapleton) on pedal steel, Chris Powell (Brent Cobb, Jamey Johnson) on drums and percussion, Adam Gardner (Southern Family) on bass and Michael Webb (Southern Family) on keyboards.
Of making the album, Shiflett comments, “After being a fan of Dave Cobb’s work for years, recording with him and his crew was everything I’d hoped it would be. His input on and arrangements of my songs took them into places I wouldn’t have imagined. Plus the speed that he creates at was inspiring.”
