Brian May Covers Buddy Holly’s “Maybe Baby”; Featured on May’s ‘Another World’ Reissue Out 4/22 (Pre-Order)

On April 22, Brian May will reissue Another World, his second solo album that the famed Queen guitarist released in 1998. Among the track listing for the deluxe new edition of the record is a cover of Buddy Holly’s “Maybe Baby,” a song that holds a special place in May’s musical memories.
The original song, which was credited to Holly and his band the Crickets, entered the charts in 1958 — and had a strong effect on then 10-year-old Brian May:
“I heard Buddy Holly make that incredible sound on his guitar, that clang, singing that beautiful song, hearing those wonderful harmonies of the Crickets,” he remembers. “And it completely motivated me. I just thought, ‘That’s what I want to do. I want to be able to make music that does that to people, makes them feel this kind of yearning, makes them feel this joy and passion.’”
Here’s May’s new cover, which has a slick music video to match:
A news release notes that the Another World reissue also includes covers of two more classic tracks from May’s youth: The Shadows’ 1961 instrumental composition “F.B.I.” and Conway Twitty’s 1958 tune “It’s Only Make Believe.”
The revisiting of Another World continues May’s Brian May Gold Series reissue campaign, which also included 1992’s Back to the Light, his first solo release.
