The entertainment and comedy world reeled with shock in early January when Bob Saget died at the age of 65, as first reported by TMZ.

What wasn’t apparent around the time of the initial news, however, was Saget’s cause of death. A few weeks later it was revealed that an autopsy did not reveal any traces of drug or alcohol in his system. This announcement led many to wonder what happened to the comedian who built a career on star turns on Full House and America’s Funniest Home Videos, as well as a notoriously raunchy and unique stand-up style.

On Wednesday, a medical examiner’s report was made public, noting that Saget died due to “accidental head trauma.”

Per CBS News:

No illicit drugs or toxins were found in his system, Dr. Joshua Stephany, chief medical examiner for Orange and Osceola counties, said in a statement. Stephany said Saget died from “blunt head trauma” and was an accident.

“His injuries were most likely incurred from an unwitnessed fall,” Stephany said.

TMZ‘s updated report adds that he “died from a brain bleed” after suffering the head trauma.

Entertainment Weekly shared a statement from Bob Saget’s family, indicating that he had “accidentally hit the back of his head on something, thought nothing of it and went to sleep.

“In the weeks since Bob’s passing, we have been overwhelmed with the incredible outpouring of love from Bob’s fans, which has been a great comfort to us and for which we are eternally grateful,” the family said. “Now that we have the final conclusions from the authorities’ investigation, we felt it only proper that the fans hear those conclusions directly from us.”

May Bob Saget rest in peace.
