Back in 2018, esteemed ZZ Top rocker Billy F Gibbons released a solo record, The Big Bad Blues, via Concord Records.

A big, loud, boisterous blast of rock and roll, the album very much exemplified Gibbons’s presence as a rock/blues legend, and a new music video for “Rollin’ and Tumblin'” was shared this week.

The clip, featuring the gravel-throated Gibbons and his band (Matt Sorum on drums and Austin Hanks on guitar) tearing through the song set to shots of open-road driving, will get your blood pumping:

It’s a lively cover of the classic blues anthem made popular by Muddy Waters in 1950, but actually dating back more than 90 years to Hambone Willie Newbern’s original. A press release notes that the tune has become a bona fide standard, being covered or used over the years in one form or another by Robert Johnson, Sleepy John Estes, Sunnyland Slim, Charley Patton, Elmore James, Howlin’ Wolf, Canned Heat, Johnny Shines, R.L. Burnside,  Cream, Johnny Winter, Fleetwood Mac, Jeff Beck, the Grateful Dead and Bob Dylan to name a few.

As for The Big Bad Blues, the record combines some classic blues/rock songs as well as originals from Billy F Gibbons — so check it out if you haven’t yet.
