Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day released another new cover tune on Monday, and this one taps into his punk roots once more.

For the latest entry in Armstrong’s #NoFunMondays series of covers, an ongoing project launched out of COVID-19 pandemic isolation, Billie Joe channeled Stiv Bators, late singer of the Dead Boys and The Lords of New Church for a rendition of “Not That Way Anymore”:

Here’s the Stiv Bators original, which was recorded around 1979 for the album sessions that spawned his 1980 solo album Disconnected but ultimately wound up on a 2004 compilation album titled L.A. Confidential:

This latest cover from the Green Day front man follows last week’s spin on “Kids in America,” which was made famous by both Kim Wilde and the Muffs:

Other recent entries to the #NoFunMondays cover series from Billie Joe Armstrong have included his take on a relatively obscure Italian song by Don Backy:

“War Stories” by the Starjets, a perhaps not well-known and short-lived New Wave/punk band from Belfast:

A tribute to the late Adam Schlesinger with “That Thing You Do!”:

As well as a fun rendition of “Manic Monday” by the Bangles, featuring Susanna Hoffs:

On a related note, Green Day’s Hella Mega Tour planned for this summer with Weezer and Fall Out Boy is technically still happening — but with the pandemic still changing things on a minute-by-minute basis, it remains to be seen if the outing will indeed happen this summer or be rescheduled/canceled as the logistics dictate.
