Aimee Mann Says Steely Dan Dropped Her from Summer Tour: “It Seems They Thought Their Audience Wouldn’t Like a Female Singer/Songwriter?”

This summer, Donald Fagen and Steely Dan were apparently set to go on tour with Aimee Mann as a special guest, but the singer/songwriter shared on Instagram that she was unceremoniously dropped from the tour … and, she says, she has no idea why.
In a comic posted on her Instagram account, Mann explains the situation as best as she understands it:
“I was supposed to open for Steely Dan this summer. I just found out that they took me off the bill. No one is entirely sure why, but it seems they thought their audience wouldn’t like a female singer-songwriter? As it happens, Steely Dan is the one band that I 100% love, with no reservations, so it really sucks. But you know what?
People are allowed to not like you, for whatever reason.”
The final panel also includes a depiction of Mann at the piano with a speech bubble reading, “Good luck to all bands.”

It doesn’t appear as if this tour had been officially announced yet; as it stands, Fagen and Steely Dan are scheduled to tour starting in late May, with special guest Snarky Puppy accompanying the band on most dates.
