Grunge enthusiasts, take note: 3rd Secret is a secret no more.

The band is a new supergroup featuring three icons of the ’90s alt/rock scene, among them drummer Matt Cameron (of Pearl Jam and Soundgarden), guitarist Kim Thayil (of Soundgarden and, later, Audioslave) and Krist Novoselic (bassist of Nirvana).

Rounding out the lineup is guitarist Bubba Dupree of the 1980s’ punk/hardcore band Void, vocalist Jillian Raye (of Giants in the Trees, one of Novoselic’s recent projects) and vocalist Jennifer Johnson.

If this is a lot of information to take in, we get it — there was no advance notice of a grunge supergroup like this, so it’s quite exciting for fans of that musical era. What’s more, 3rd Secret’s debut album is already available to stream on Spotify.

The credit section on the band’s official site explains that the record was co-produced and mixed by Jack Endino, famed Seattle-based producer deeply associated with “grunge” and boasting a resume of albums including Nirvana’s Bleach, Soundgarden’s Screaming Life and Mudhoney’s Superfuzz Bigmuff EP, among many other notable works.

While there isn’t much else out there in terms of official information about 3rd Secret (and the band’s website is quite throwback in its general presentation and “1990s-ness”), here’s hoping there’s more in the works. Cameron will be busy soon out on the road with Pearl Jam on the band’s rescheduled tour supporting 2020’s Gigaton, but it sure would be great to see 3rd Secret play some live shows …

Stay tuned!
