One of the projects Deftones front man Chino Moreno has frequently turned to outside of his “day job” over the years is ††† (Crosses), an atmospheric musical collaboration with producer/multi-instrumentalist Shaun Lopez.

††† (Crosses) was recently started back up again with the song “Initiation,” and on Tuesday a visually stirring music video was shared to pair with another new track, “Protection”:

Here’s the video for “Initiation,” which first premiered in March:

More on the duo’s recent burst of activity:

Formed in 2011, the band released their self-titled debut album three years later. They recently returned to music and ended a hiatus with a surprise cover of Q Lazzarus’s cult classic “Goodbye Horses” and announced a new deal with Warner Records. Previously the group released another cover titled “Beginning of The End” originally by Cause & Effect. As they gear up for even more music to come this year, “Initiation” and “Protection” are the first signs that ††† (Crosses) are officially back.

In related news, this week Moreno and Deftones will finally embark on a tour that was originally scheduled for the spring of 2020:

Deftones’ most recent album was 2020’s pummeling and relentlessly compelling Ohms. From our review:

Deftones have remained a remarkably consistent band over the years. Despite attempting new things and applying tweaks to the formula along the way, the band has always found a way to retain its individuality. Nobody else sounds like Deftones, and Deftones don’t sound like anybody else.

That’s as true as ever with Ohms, one of the strongest albums the band has released thus far in its storied career.
